Awareness can make or break the whole disaster recovery or emergency preparedness planning initiative.

The facts are simple - if the people on the ground are ill equipped in this area, and are unaware of what steps they need to take in the case of a disaster, the plan itself is likely exposed to real problems and may well fail.

In the light if this, it is perhaps surprising that some organizations pay so little attention ot this area. Perhaps it is just too simple to deal with. Or perhaps there is the age old problem of people believing it won't happen to them.

Whatever the reason, awareness in the area of disaster recovery is essential.

WHAT CAN I DO?
Plenty. Make employees aware of where the plan is held. Make them aware of what they must do in the case of an emergency - who they must contact, where they must go. For those who have an active role, ensure that they know exactly where they fit and what is expected.
